The Home of the WebMaster

What good is a WebSite ?

    A WebSite is the ultimate tool in electronic communication of one (person) to many (people). It might be a rabid jackal's missive of some ideological trend, it could be something your children should not see (and some), it might present a dry recital of statistics, all as chosen by the intents of the WebMaster ... and of course by the Master(s) of the WebMaster.

    The intent of the WebSite of Unit102 is to inform our members about all that is "fit to know" in the Realm of Bridge in our environs. Given that the District 9 Bulletin does not have a daily edition, our WebSite wishes to be your electronic Newspaper, delivered at your doorstep every morning.

    Slight exaggeration, but you will find the date (and the hour of the day) of the last update (middle of Front Page, just past the Message from the President) lags not much behind the actual day of the week. In this vein, results of Tournaments in our area are posted never later than Monday following the event, unless unable to obtain the information from ACBL directors (that may take a week sometime). Our Regional in February ended at 7:20 PM Sunday afternoon, the results were "up" on the WebSite at 11:05 PM Sunday evening. That may qualify as "fast" service". (... and what the WebMaster's wife said about that to the WebMaster is something we are not allowed to print).

    Everything is Date-Stamp-ed helping readers to find new "stuff" and avoid looking at the same thing over and over.

    Our site is organized conceptually into three parts of equal importance:  Information, Achievements and Entertainment. Physically everything originates from the front page, the one the visitor reaches, when typing the www.Unit102.com address into her/his browser. Coincidentally, that page divides into three parts too.

    Top Part displays a "keyboard" with buttons to push to contact the major departments (pages) of the site, the names of these departments speak for themselves, hopefully, most of the time; Bottom presents a Message from the President, because he is the Voice of Our Unit (this message followed by unique information and this missive itself), while the Middle is a Road-Map of contact to the "fast breaking" news of the week, with a date-stamp showing how fast; followed by Evolution (in Rank / Mastership), Entertainment and a "How To" Manual answering most frequent questions.

    Departments of INFORMATION are pages titled:
                Future Events ("Flyer"-s of all tournaments in Florida);
                Tournament Results (most tournaments in Florida);
                Clubs & Specials (with area club schedules, 'phone #-s and addresses, plus special club Events)
                Bridge Instructions (the kind one pays for, not those gotten free at the table);
                NewsLetter (articles of interest);
                Advisories (District 9 & Unit 102 official "doings");
                Search (a tool to find something, usually a name on our Site, this is sort of our "Google");
                Links (to many useful Bridge-Sites of others);
                Counsel our Board ... asking advice from our members;
                Election and Meetings (of Unit 102);
                ... highlights of the Board of Directors meeting, decisions & resolutions;
                ... "help wanted Ad-s": these change from month-to-month;
                ... "unique considerations": this time "Cannon Fodder" dealing with K.O. Bracket sizes and
                     "... a little bit pregnant ... " quandary created by not knowing whom you are facing;
                ... and last but not least opinion polls, the present one: Compact K.O. vs. Pairs in Sectionals.

    Departments of ACHIEVEMENTS pages:
                Hall of Fame (Mini-McKenny, Ace-of-Clubs, National Events' winners, and the 72% Game Club);
                Advances (in "Masterly" Status each year, from Club Master to Grand Master);
                Festivities / participants at our Awards Dinner (a Unit 102 Tradition) and
                Picture Gallery (of winners and friends, by amateur photographers).

    Departments of ENTERTAINMENT: intended to provide just that, in Letters to Us people will amuse (mayhap educate) you on subjects, that are of great interest to them. Recommended reading:

    The Tale of the Web and the Spider (caught in own Web); "We really should have won" advice from Plato and Hand-of-the-Month: selected with an honest and  serious effort to offer varied topics, not just a slew of elaborate quadruple-squeezes ... ... this triage is the excuse for not having a Hand for every month).
